Impacted Leaders Initiative

Parole Project’s Impacted Leaders Initiative seeks to fill a gap in the social justice space by training and mentoring high-potential formerly incarcerated leaders. The initiative provides participants with a twelve-month paid fellowship program so that they may truly reach their full potential and utilize their experiences to change systems, communities, and lives.

About the Impacted Leaders Initiative

The Impacted Leaders Initiative provides formerly incarcerated leaders the intentional investment necessary to build their capacity and unlock their talents. Fellows receive resources, specialized support, and hands-on experience to emerge as influential figures in their chosen professions.

Skill Development

The initiative offers workshops and activities focused on:

  • Personal growth
    • trauma healing, social-emotional learning, goal-setting
  • Mobility:
    • digital and financial literacy
  • Communications:
    • storytelling, public speaking, and effective messaging
  • Networking:
    • power-mapping, strategic planning, relationship building

Mentorship

Fellows receive ongoing personalized mentorship with established leaders in their professional realm.

Externships

Fellows are placed in externships in both local and national organizations, providing exposure to diverse social justice practices and conditions beyond their immediate environments.

Collaboration

Using a cohort model based on interdependence, the initiative establishes a supportive network among fellows by creating shared values, prioritizing team building, and implementing a restorative, participatory approach.

Following the year-long program, fellows are provided with opportunities to stay engaged with the initiative, with each other, and with a national network of formerly incarcerated leaders. We firmly believe that, with the right tools and resources, fellows will be empowered to lead campaigns, organizations, and movements for systemic change.
